I purchased this drz used and immediately i realized how poorly this thing was maintained Drz400 coolant seepage by malcolmzilla » mon jul 18, 2011 10:16 pm that image in the tech article is misleading, you do not pull that seal off, rather fill the void between the collar its on and the shaft with rtv, as the coolant leaks through there along the shaft, the press fit is not tight enough to prevent leakage. I bought it thinking it just needed a carb rebuild, and that certainly is not the case
DRZ400e leaking coolant out of overflow when not running - DRZ400/E/S/SM - ThumperTalk
It runs and idles well following the carb rebuild but i immediately stopped running it when i realized the rads were empty Unless you mean pouring coolant in there makes it dump into the reservoir and then out onto the ground? It had milky oil, and no coolant in the radiators making me think the headgasket is.
For a coolant change on the drz you would have to of loosened the coolant drain bolt on the rear brake side of the bike near the water pump
This drains the coolant from the motor Some flushing with distilled water should also occur to rinse the passages After this is done you can take your premixed or mix your own fluid, place the water pump bolt back in and start filling Fixing the coolant leak issue
I posted a while back about my e model dripping coolant from around the water pump housing It's gotten worse and now the coolant drains out at a pretty alarming rate So i guess it's time to fix it I know what's involved in fixing it, but i'm wondering what the consensus is on the proper fix for the issue.

60 psi is down a huge amount from standard I'd expect you hear hissing out the exhaust or the carb if it were leaking around the valves I'd still do a solvent test on the valves, it's a simple test Usual places that can cause big psi losses
Head gasket valves (more often exhaust side) badly scored cylinder cracked head skipped timing chain, bad cam, sticking valve (anything that would. When the latter happens, the coolant will leak into the transmission oil, causing the piston and cylinders to overheat due to the lack of coolant in the system. My buddy dropped off his drz400sm because the oil and coolant are mixing This is what he has says he has done
New head gasket new oem water pump kit i was looking online and the drz has 2 freeze plugs in the head so i figured to look there
Well i have had the cooling system pumped up. So on the drz, the tank under the airbox isn't actually a reservoir When the engine is cold, there should not be any coolant in that tank Fill the radiator from the cap on the top of the radiator
